This book is designed to give a deeper look into my understandings of the broad topic that is multicultural education. We will take a look at what James Burke describes as its 5 Dimensions. I will also demonstrate a greater understanding for digital learning and teaching and what that means for educators and students, as well as recognizing what scaffolds are and their importance in the classroom.
5 DIMENSIONS
of MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION
CONTENT INTEGRATION
weighs how inclusive of diverse groups and cultures educators are in their teachings when showing examples that give evidence of the major components and ideals of their disciplines.
CONTENT
INTEGRATION
I will apply content integration into my classroom by referencing material from a diverse selection of resources that reflect my students.
The Knowledge- Construction Process
investigates how teachers nurture student knowledge & understanding, exploration, & discoveries of the affects of influential variables including the stereotypes, frames of reference, and biases that exist within a discipline.
The
KNOWLEDGE-
CONSTRUCTION
PROCESS
I can adhere to this process by encouraging and guiding exploration and critical thinking in my scholars to broaden their scopes.
Prejudice
Reduction
Prejudice reduction is centered around the traits of the racial perspectives that students have and how teaching resources and strategies can adapt them.
Prejudice reduction will be seen in my classroom by students drawing connections to character development and changing perspectives throughout stories.
Equity
Pedagogy
an Equity Pedagogy is when teachers structure their teachings to reflect the broad diversity of learners they teach. This includes adopting teaching styles that advance the academic achievement of the students they serve across each of those groups.
To attain an equity pedagogy I will learn about my students' cultures and use that knowledge to connect with them and gauge what they need academically.
When creating or examining to create an empowering school culture and social structure for students across diverse groups, we must consider all aspects of systemic racism, biases, and conditions for learning within schools.
Empowering School Culture and Social Structure
I will demonstrate this in my practice by building relationships with my colleagues, encouraging extracurricular activities, and implementing 'buddy systems' in my classroom.
Digital Learning and Teaching
I found many discoveries when reviewing the digital learning competencies and standards.
