A long, long time ago in an Indian village a baby girl was born. The village
natives called it “Escondido,” which meant, “Hidden Valley.” It was a beautiful
green valley.
A long, long time ago in an Indian village a baby
girl was born. The village natives called it

The mother named her baby “Little-Drop-Of-Dew”
because she was met with the dew from heaven
every morning. This is the story of how Little-Drop-
of-Dew saved her village.

The tribe of Little-Drop-of-Dew found out she was
a very special baby. Every time she cried, it began
to rain. They were glad Little-Drop-of-Dew was a
part of their tribe. When she cried, it rained and
watered their crops. They had much more food
than other tribes. Their crops grew big and strong
from so much rain.

One day, Inyau, the big spirit of the Sun, grew angry. He
looked down and saw many people that did not get
along. They did not treat other people nice. There were
fights and people hurt each other with their words. This
made Inyau upset.
He began to get a sad face. Then His sad face turned into
a mad face. He wanted the people to get along and be
nice. So he decided to burn very hot sun rays onto them
until they quit being mean to one another.
Inyau breathed fire all day and all night. He did not sleep
for many days. Many days turned into many months. The
crops and animals began to die. The hot sun dried up the
river and all their water. The ground began to crack. The
Indian village had never gone so long without water.

They went to Little-Drop-of-Dew to beg her to
help them.
“What can I do?” she asked. The Indian people
did not know what to do. All they knew was
they needed rain. They walked away sad. Little-
Drop-Of-Dew felt bad too. She did not know
why Inyau was punishing them.
