Little Maple was hopeful that someday he
could be an important tree like his friends in
the forest.
Tall Pine to his right was surely important.
Little Maple wondered when he would be
important.

Then a bird came along and asked, “What’s the matter,
Little Maple?”
Little Maple replied,
“I’m not important like the
other trees.”
The bird says not to worry because one day Little
Maple will be a home for other birds. Little Maple
feels sad because that isn’t what he wants to do.
The bird flies away and Little Maple is still sad.

is still sulking and droopy. Squirrel
says, “Why are you so sad?"
Little Maple says, "I'll never
be important.
The Squirrel says not to be sad and tells Little Maple
that someday he’ll get to be an important tree.

down the road, maybe you’ll be used for it!”
Little Maple feels sad because that isn’t what he wants to do

Little Maple replies, “I’ll never be important.”

Then the bear says, “There are many bees
around here. Maybe they will use your
branches to hold one of their hives to
produce honey.”
Little Maple was afraid of bees,
so he didn’t like that idea.
