The world's most diverse ecosystem are tropical rainforests. The rainforest of the Amazon is the biggest rainforest in the world. It has around 40 000 plants, close to 1 300 bird species, 3 000 fish kinds, 427 animal species and 2,5 million insects.

The genetic variation of tropical tree populations is comparable with the tree species in temporary areas, and most tropical tree species are cross-border and have little or no inbreeding levels.
