What lies behind Albrecht Dürer's famous Praying Hands?

Albrecht Dürer was born into a large family.

Including him, there are 18 children in the family, so they must work hard to make ends meet.

He and his brother, Albert, shared a remarkable talent for art, and both dreamed of studying at a nearby academy.

Realizing that they couldn't afford to do so at the same time, the brothers decided to leave it to fate and flip a coin.

Fortune smiled on Albrecht, and he devoted the next four years of his life to his passion, however his brother had to worked underground in harsh and dangerous conditions in order to fund Albrecht's expensive tuition. 

Albert's sacrifice was not in vain, Albrecht soon made a name for himself at the academy.

It wasn't until he graduated that the rising young artist returned home in triumph.
