Squish's Big Step
By Haley Richmond
2021
One bright and sunny day, Squish and Mari were together in the apartment. Mari was running around, playing with toys, and looking at birds out of the window. While she was having fun, Squish couldn't help but be alone.
All morning Mari played. Squish would occasionally eat some kibble or drink some water. Aside from that, he wanted to be alone. He wasn't feeling like himself.
Mari noticed this change in Squish's behavior. She decided to sit him down for a talk.
She asked him how he was feeling. Squish told her he felt weird, not like himself, and that he didn't feel like doing anything fun anymore. All he wanted to do was lay by himself, not even interested in his favorite toys.
Mari tells him that she has felt that way before, and what helped her was a special person called a therapist. Mari Shared that this person helped her get through her sad experiences and how to handle future sad situations.
Squish thought this sounded like a good idea. He wanted to feel like himself again, he just didn't know where to start. Thanks to Mari's help, he was able to make the first step. Squish looked online for a local therapist that would be best fit his needs.
Squish found a therapist that seemed great. Her name was Daisy and she was a social worker. Daisy works with individuals like Squish to help them work through their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
Squish made an appointment and was able to make it for that afternoon. After talking with Mari, he knew no matter how nervous he was to go, he deserves to feel better again.
Squish went to Daisy's office and was hesitant to go in, but he did. He was greeted by a kind and gentle therapist who was expecting to see him. It was Daisy and Squish was relieved that she was so nice.
