For months Coyote had been bothering Armadillo. This day, much like the last few, Armadillo had spent every hour getting tricked and pushed around by Coyote. 

Finally, Armadillo had had enough.

"I can't go on like this!" Armadillo cried to his friend, Snake.

Wanting to help his friend, Snake proposed a plan for Armadillo to visit other animals and see if they could share some of their own natural armor.

Incensed with the idea, Armadillo gathered tools for his journey, said goodbye to his friend, and began walking.

Armadillo visited Frog and asked for some of his poisonous slime that he could put on his own skin. 

...but the slime dried too quickly. Plan 1 had failed but Armadillo was too determined to give up now. 

Armadillo trudged on and came upon Porcupine.  

He begged Porcupine to spare some of his quills so that he could place them on his own back.

...but the quills only fell off. Still determined, Armadillo thanked Porcupine and continued on his way. 

Armadillo then came upon Hermit Crab. Armadillo begged for Hermit Crab's help and together they scoured the beach for a large-enough shell.

But their efforts were unsuccessful. Armadillo was feeling weary and tired but promised to try one last time before he gave up. 

Armadillo then came upon Tortoise. He begged the Tortoise to spare a few pieces of his armor. Tortoise happily helped. 

Armadillo was excited that one of his plans was working, but quickly discovered that it simply wasn't enough to cover Armadillo's larger size.

Seeing the problem, Tortoise offered to take Armadillo to visit several friends who could help out.
