Once upon a time, a little girl wished upon a star.

Her mother had been sick for many months. She was at the point of desperation, desperate for the glimmer of hope only stars can provide.

Unfortunately, the star she wished on wasn’t very experienced in the business of granting wishes.

No, it was just a child. A very confused child.

And no one would offer it any help. All the older stars would tell it that it would only learn by figuring it out on its own. But how, that was the question.

Their advice wasn’t very helpful when even the starting place was unclear.

It looked down at the girl, hoping, pleading for an answer. After all, it couldn’t just let the wish go ungranted. And such a small girl… She was like the star itself, hungry for answers.

The star started to gaze into the girl’s life. It watched her flit through all her activities. Humans were such fickle creatures, changing so fast, so suddenly.

Her life was so far away, but so close at the same time. Like watching someone through a thin layer of glass, touchable and untouchable.

It lived with her, inside her, feeling everything she felt as strongly as she did.
