Introduction
Did you know that the Navajo tribe is the most populated tribe in the world? Well, it is. But not only that, they also have many myths, like "The Warrior Twins." Let's dive into more cool facts!
Is "The Navajo" the only name that they refer to?
No, but mostly. Some other names that they call themselves and their homeland are:
1) The Diné (The People)
2) The Dine'é (Also means "The People")
3) Then, Diné Bikéyah (Navajoland)
Where do they live?
The Navajo people live mostly in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Utah. Also, they live on something called a reservation. A reservation is basically a safe area for Native Americans to live in. The Navajo live in traditional Earth houses, called Hogans. Hogans are made out of wood and clay. The Navajo also lived close to the Pueblo tribe, who were great trading partners with them. In fact, Navajo is actually a word that comes from the Pueblo language itself!
What are some family roles?
For starters, all Navajo children are active. This is because when they are just little kids, their parents train them to be what they are expected to be. For example, boys are trained to hunt, and girls are trained to make clothes. Also, only men in the Navajo tribe are Chiefs. Navajo women wear heavy wool dresses, and planted The Three Sisters (corn, beans, and squash,) which was their main daily meal.
