CHAPTER 1

"Danny go to bed," mom said "it's almost
8:00."
"But mom,Grandpa was going to read me
one of his stories, PLEASE, PLEASE,
PLEASE let me stay up," I begged,"just a
little longer?"
Grandpa stepped in."Common Audrey,
just 15 more minutes please?"
"Fine, but you better be asleep by 8:20,"
mom said loud and clear.

I ran like the wind up the stairs to get
my pajamas on, while grandpa took his
time walking up the stairs.

Chapter 2

"Soooo...., whats the story about," I
asked.
"Well," he said, "how about something
before my time?"
"Like dinosaurs," I roared.
"No, that's a little to far how
about......................."

president.

"Thomas Jefferson."
"Ok.... who's he," I asked.
"He's a pretty important person. He was
the 3rd president of the U.S.. He placed
an embargo on foreign goods in 1807 so
countries would STOP attacking
American ships."

Chapter 3

"Jefferson also helped create a law that
declared America could no longer trade
with foreign countries they called it the
Embargo Act.

"The U.S did not like the Embargo Act
because it hurt the economy, people lost
their jobs,and money practically went
down the drain...........a deep...........dark
lonely drain. This effect could also occur
during impressment."

"Because of the Embargo Act people
turned to smuggling."

"Then congress did something very nice
they repealed the Embargo Act."

Chapter 4

"Then there were 4 countries off the
coast of Africa; Morocco, Algiers,
Tunisia, and Tripoli. Pirates started
raiding European nations, as a solution
they paid Barbary States tribute.

"But Jefferson had a different solution
for the problem. He actually stopped
paying tribute and sent warships to deal
with the problem."
"So he was in charge,"I asked.
"Yea kinda."

"After that the U.S. marines ship broke
down, they couldn't fix it so the decided
to burn it."
"Why would they burn it?"I asked.
"To keep pirates from using it."
"OOOOHHHH."
