Fun Facts About Goats
Goats were one of the first animals that were tamed by humans, and were being herded over 9,000 years ago.

Goats can actually be taught their name and to come when called.

The lifespan of a goat is about the same as a dog.

Goats have a gestation period (pregnancy) for about 5 months and the average birth rate of a goat is 2.2 kids per year.

Baby Goats known as kids, are standing within 5 minutes after birth.

Goats like to group with other goats, a group of goats is called a herd. When a goat isn't in a herd, they become depressed.

Goats are known for their ability to climb up things. Such as climbing up a steep mountain or even climbing up trees!

Contrary to the stereotype that "goats will eat anything," goats are actually picky eaters and they will even deny any hay that has been walked on or lying around loose all day.

Goats' pupils are rectangular, which gives them vision 320 to 340 degrees around them without having to move and they are thought to have excellent night vision.

Goats are foragers not grazers, they actually prefer to be as high as they can up a mountain in order to scope out the best choice bits of forage that is around them.

The Alpine Goat: Known as the highest producing milkers, with top goats producing up to 2 gallons of milk per day.

La Mancha Goat: These goats are known for having tiny ears, and they are also good for milking.
