Lost at the Zoo

Zoo 
Ben was off to a day at the zoo.He was excited to see the monkeys, giraffes, and bears, too.

2His mommy held his hand as they headedto the gate. He'd been waiting all month
for this exact date.

3"Mommy I want to start with the giraffes!"Ben exclaimed.
"I know you do honey, but you'll just have
to wait."

His mommy started to walk into the crowdof people. Ben couldn't keep up, he was
too little. He had lost his mommy and
didn't know what to do, so he took off on
an adventure around the zoo.4

5Panicked and nervous, he trotted ahead. He was too scared to talk to strangers, so
he thought he'd talk to the animals
instead.

6He started with the bears, walking up to the cage. He said "Hey Mr. Bear, did you
see my mommy walk this way?"

7Mr. Bear said, "Who me? I haven't seen her at all. Maybe the giraffes can see her,
they're pretty tall."

8Ben thought that sounded good, so heheaded to the giraffe exhibit. "Hey, Mr.
Giraffe, can you see my mom? Look in
crowd, she might be in it.

9"I'm sorry, I can't see her, but maybe ask the monkeys where she might be. They
can swing even higher than my eyes can
see.

10Ben shrugged his shoulders and walked to the monkey trees. "Hey Mr. Monkey, can you help me find
my mommy, please?"

11"I think I saw her earlier but I don't know whereshe went. Ask a zoo worker, they know where
you should be sent.

12Ben knew the monkey was right, he should ask a trusted adult. But strangers
made him nervous, and he didn't know
where to go.

13He saw a worker in uniform, but he was too scared to ask for help, so he sat down
in the middle of the zoo and began to cry
and yelp.

14"I can't find my mommy. I can't find heranywhere. I've looked all around the zoo."
His panicked screams turned into shrills,
he didn't know what to do.
