The definition of a milestone is "a significant event in your life" (vocabulary.com, 2022, para. 1). In early childhood when the children can complete a skill on their own or with little help from a teacher or other adult, that is a developmental milestone.

At age 4, a child can:

1. Name a few colors (CDC, n.d.)

2. Tell you their first & last name.

3. Tell you their gender.

4. Remember stories and recall what comes next.

COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT MILESTONES

At age 5, a child can:

2. Name letters of the alphabet.

3. Name basic colors.

4. Use large vocabulary words (CDC, n.d.).

LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT MILESTONES

At age 4, a child can:

1. Sing nursery rhymes (CDC, n.d.)

2. Tell you about their day.

3. Say sentences with more than three words. (CDC, n.d.). 

4. Respond to questions you ask them.

LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT MILESTONES

At 5 years old, a child can:

1. "Uses or recognizes simple rhymes (bat-cat, ball-tall)" (CDC, n.d., Milestones).

2. Use their imagination.

3. Speak clearly.

4. Carry on a conversation.
