                            The Start   

In the year 1891 basketball was invented.  Who invented basketball? Well, his name is James Naismith.  This became a huge sport fast and many people loved it. Many people of all sizes, ages, and abilities play this sport. 

      When James Naismith was making basketball, he had help from Phog Allen. At the start, basketball was big and many people played it. The baskets at the time were peach baskets.  And the balls were soccer balls.

James Naismith is the one who made basketball. James has the old basket and the old basketball ball.

                              The Rules 

If you play basketball, you will know that there are rules, such as if you pick up the ball you can not move, and if you do it is called travleling . One rule is that you must do a jump ball at the start of the game. There are many things you can not do in the sport of basketball. If there is a shooting foul, that person gets to shoot two shots.

               The Best Of The Best 

Have you seen a basketball game and you were like "I want to be like those pros?" Well, these are some of them. Lebron James is on the Lakers and Kobe was on the Lakers. O' Neal was on the Lakers and Michael Jordan was on the Dream Team and the Bulls. They are some of the pros.

                       1891 To Now 

When basketball started,  they used a peach basket, and a soccer ball. 

They were still making the equipment better. But it did not matter for many people. Now it is a lot better with so much more. They do not have to go up a ladder when they make a goal. The ball is now not a soccer ball.  And the goal is not a peach basket.
