electrons that are free floating. These are called
delocalized electrons which cause metals to be
good conductors, malleable and shiny.
compound. They are in a sea of electrons. Metallic compound do not
have a strong hold on the electrons meaning that Matt is
cheating on Ally with the nonmetal, Stacy.
argue a lot because they have a high melting point.
They are conductors when they are melted. And
together they make a crystalline solid. Like Matt,
Stacy isn't very faithful.
Stacy is also dating Steve, the nonmetal. Stacy
and Steve are a covalent compound. They
share their electrons. They get along well
because they have low melting points. They
aren't good conductors
Each couple/compound has a name. Usually
their friends at school give them their
compound name and symbol. In order to do
this they have to keep in mind what elements
they are and make sure that their charges
neutralize.
For example,
Stacy=Nitrogen. Symbol=N, charge= -3
Matt=Lithium. Symbol=Li, charge=+1
Their compound name would be
Lithium Nitride
Their symbol is
Li3N
Matt, Ally, Stacy, and Steve went to help put cookies into
boxes for the PTO bake sale. Each box needs 8 cookies
for a full box. They had to play it cool of course so no one
knew that they were cheating. The cookies are like an
atom's valence electrons. In order for the atoms to have
full shells, or in the cookie case full boxes, they need to
share electrons with other atoms until its outer shell is
full. This represents Lewis Dot Structure in electrons.
As they were putting cookies into boxes Matt ran out of
cookies to put in a box only filled with 7. So Stacy and
Matt shared their cookies so they both could have full
boxes. Matt, forgetting that Ally was there, hugged
Stacy out of gratitude. Ally and Steve both saw them
hugging and were devastated! They both stormed off
and never spoke to each other again.
Matt and Stacy stayed together after the big scene
and remained an ionic compound. Sometimes they
think about what happened to Ally and Steve...
Ally and Steve talked and bonded over the fact they
were both being cheated on. Ally thought that
Steve was pretty cute so they started to hang out
and now they are dating and go on adventures all
around the world. They never thought about Stacy
and Matt and never planned too. Ally was so happy
that she became an ionic compound with Steve.
