What is Climate Change?
Climate change, (also known as global warming) needs to be reduced. Climate change is when the earth heats up too much, causing ice burgs to melt, droughts to occur and plants and animals to struggle and die out. As you can tell, this is a problem.

Oh, NO!

What Causes Climate Change?
The sun heats the earth and, when we release toxic gases into the air, the atmosphere traps these gases in. This is called the greenhouse effect. Pretend the earth is surrounded by a big bubble (the atmosphere). Heat gets trapped inside the big bubble and most of it can't get out.
For example, have you ever experienced going into a car on a hot summer day and it feels like a desert? I have, and it's not very fun. Instead of just in the car, it's all around the world.

The green house effect is a big deal. When we release smoke, drive our cars, use a lot of electricity and waste food, we are making the greenhouse effect worse. The solutions to reduce climate change have already been found. It's not a question of "what," it's of "when." It could be now! We could have already started making a better place for further generations, but we haven't. Why?

Save the bees!

Plant more trees!
Clean the seas!
Every day we pollute more and more. We need to stop burning fossil fuels that release toxic fuels into the air. A few states are taking their part, but we need everyone to help. Everyone. Every person matters. Everyone needs to join in.

Ways to be more Sustainable
Eating locally farmed crops, (corn, beans, etc.) is a great way to save energy. The vehicles transporting the food don't have to travel as far and less carbon dioxide is getting released into the air.
How does eating less meat help? Animals take up a lot of space, space we don't need to waste. We cut down trees to make room for the animals. We are cutting down part of the Amazon rain forest for meat. Like cutting down paradise for a parking lot. That sounds terrible and it is.
Oxygen=
Carbon=
Dioxide

When trees are cut, we lose an air cleaner. Did you know that trees breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen? Yep, they do! It's the opposite for humans and animals. Trees filter our air so we don't run out of it. Isn't that cool!? Unfortunately, we are cutting down thousands of trees, losing that many air cleaners each day.
Composting is a sustainable way to reduce food waste. I just love this part! Composting is putting scraps of food in a bin and letting it sit and decompose on it's own. Worms, insects and other animals break down the food into smaller bits and soon enough, you will get, new-born dirt! It's a natural fertilizer that is good for any garden and very healthy for the earth.

Composting Chart

Wet/Green
*fruit scraps
*vegetable scraps
*grass cuttings
*herb leaves
*egg shells
Dry/Brown
*nut shells
*newspaper
*bread scraps
*Bio-degradable dishes
*paper
*dry leaves
If the compost gets too dry, add water
Have a balanced amount of wet and dry
