Chapter 1: Ancient Bible
When you think about best-selling, which one would you say is the most best-selling book? The Lord of the rings with 150 million copies but is wrong. How about a tale of two cities, 200 million copies but is also wrong. The best selling book with 5 BILLION COPIES is the Bible! It is also translated into 2000 languages. Around 2000 BC, the Hebrew people wrote down the Hebrew bible or what we call the old testament.
From 1500-600 BC, they mix the laws, the prophets and the writings into the Hebrew Bible. In 400 BC, the Greek empire invaded Israel. The main language was now Greek which meant that the Hebrew Bible was translated to Greek. This was called the Septuagint. I had 7 extra books called the Apocrypha. This was the Bible used by Jesus. When the apostles wrote down Jesus's life, they did it in Greek. The earliest writings were written by Paul the Apostle. The Gospels, Teachings and Letters were turned to the New Testament.
In 331 AD, Constantine the Great commanded to make 50 copies of the Bible.
Chapter 2: Medieval Bible
In 405 AD, Jerome makes the Latin Version called the Vulgate. It became the official text of western Christianity. When the Roman Empire fell in the 5th century AD, the Vandals, Goths and Huns invaded Europe. From around 1100 and 1200, missionaries and soldiers brought the bible to Britain. They turned the Vulgate into the language they were speaking at the time. At 1300, the church banned Non-Latin bibles. In 1384, John Wycliffe translated the bible to the normal languages or common.
