Have you heard about sexual harassment? Is it awful for the victim? Actually, Sexual Harassment is an action of a sexual nature, whether conveyed through physical contact or non-physical contact. Where these actions can make a person feel uncomfortable, offended, feel humiliated, resulting in physical and mental health problems. Sexual harassment can occur anywhere, whether in public places such as buses, markets, schools, offices, or in private places such as the home. Although in general women are often under the spotlight as victims of sexual harassment, sexual harassment can happen to anyone. Victims of sexual harassment can be male or female. The victim may be of the opposite sex of the abuser or of the same gender.Therefore, sexual harassment is awful for the victim because it can provide a psychological impact, provide a physical impact, and provide an impact on the environment. 

The first reason is sexual harassment awful for the victim it can provide a psychological impact. Some people say that sexual harassment only takes a moment in the psychological recovery process. Actually, that statement is wrong. For victims who are sexually harassed and psychologically affected, it takes is extensive time for the victim to return to normal. In some cases of sexual harassment, the most difficult impact to heal is the psychological impact. According to Darma and Tobing (2017) sexual harassment and rape can have a profoundly traumatic effect on the victim. Victims of sexual harassment and rape can experience stress due to the traumatic experiences they have experienced and are often referred to as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). With this psychological impact, it can also cause a suicide effect for the victim, which can increase the death rate in each country. Thus, sexual harassment has a profound impact on the victim’s psychology and can cause lifelong trauma for the victim.

The second reason is sexual harassment awful for the victim it can provide a physical impact. In some sexual cases the physical impact on the victim was not much and even minor injuries suffered by the victim. Actually, that's statement is wrong. Victims of sexual violence and abuse will experience physical impacts such as internal injuries and bleeding. In severe cases, damage to internal organs may occur. According to Lyness (Maslihah 2006), sexual violence against children includes touching or kissing the victim’s sexual organ, sexual acts, or against the victim. Other physical effects include chronic disease and pain, sexually transmitted diseases, such as chlamydia, herpes, including HIV, then infection or bleeding in the vagina or anus, inflammation of the vagina, to pain during sexual intercourse. Thus, sexual violence or harassment has a very physical impact, especially in severe cases.
