My Memory:
This is the story of a trip I took when I was a little girl
with my family. I was about ten years old and living in
Los Angeles with my parents, sisters, two brothers.
It never snows in Los Angeles, but we drove a few hours
up nearby mountains to experience playing in the snow.
It was a fun and unique time, with many lively family
members playing, and learning to get along.

That morning, we sat in the backseat of the
minivan, my sisters, Chana Gittel, Nechama,
and I. Zalman, the eldest sat in middle with
little Tzvi. The music played” Modeh Ani…” We
sang along and watched the road and the
steep mountains we were winding around.

As we drove, we were crowded by the piles of
fuzzy clothing on our laps and on the floor. We
weren't used to wearing layers of clothes, or
any warm coats for that matter. Our coats,
boots we bought the day before, and
mismatching gloves with the tags still on them
were piled on the floor of the car. I struggled
to get on a sweatshirt, zip up a coat, and put
on a hat and gloves, biting the tag and pulling
it off with my teeth.

After we parked at the side of the road, My
feet crunched the snow, and I dragged the
round fluorescent pink sled to the top of the
hill. The pine trees are glittered with white
frost, and I screeched as I raced down the hill.
Cold snow found it’s way into my gloves, and
my hand felt numb.

Later, I ate a tuna sandwich sitting on a cold
log, but it was good. Chanie was holding a bag
of pretzels that we shared.
