One day Sally and Joe went to the park. As
they were playing near the sand, sally found a
rock that didn't seem to belong in the sand.
"What is this rock doing here?" asked Sally.
Joe went over the rock and began to ponder.

As Sally continued to play in the sand Joe
asked, "Sally, do you really know what a rock
is?"
Sally responded, "Yeah its something you find
at the park!"
Joe shook his head and explained, "No Sally, it
is a hard mineral from earth. There are large
rocks which have great size and there are
small rocks which are not great in size."

Sally smiled and said, "that still doesn't explain
why its it the sand silly."
Joe shook his head and said, "I'm not done
explaining. Rocks can start out very large and
then whither down in size and end up being as
small as a grain of sand. Weathering is the
breaking apart and changing of rocks. It can
change a rock's size, shape, and color."
