    Prologue

    Once there was a dragon...and a kitty.  They liked  nothing more than to annoy each other . The kitty liked to hide the dragon’s extra spicy chili peppers and the dragon tried to sleep in the kitten's bed! He always complained 

    “My bed is made out of rocks!”And of course there were the insults, for example, “Cats rule and dragons drool!'' or “Dragons can fly and cats dont!” 

    It all was  like that until one day they found the beautiful blue ocean.

There were water horses, dolphins, and otters playing together. They looked farther and they found an island! The dragon said 

    “Hop on my back.” so the kitten did. They flew for exactly 1 minute and 10 seconds until they reached the island. About 5 minutes after the reached the island they found a creature they had never seen before. It looked like a fiery bird! It was about the dragon’s age (Which was 8) and she was very beautiful.

     “Who are you? What are you? And where are we?” The kitten asked 

    “I am Ember, I am a phoenix and this island is called Mantisy.” said the phoenix “Who are you?”

     “I am Burn and this is Nippy” said the dragon (Because those were their nicknames.) “Well Burn and Nippy would you like to come to my house?” asked  Ember, they all  agreed.There were chili peppers at Ember’s house and before you could say it Burn was munching away. After a night in Ember’s house Burn and Nippy began to feel homesick so they said ‘bye’ to Ember, her parents, and her seven siblings and then they traveled home. When they got there their parent’s said; 

    “Where were you?” and “We were worried sick about you!” It was good to be home but they knew that they would  want to see Ember again. (Not without parent permission again of course.)  

Chapter 1

    It was a cloudy afternoon. Burn had just finished the only book he liked. It was called The Tale of a Human 

    “Do you think people are real?” Burn asked Nippy “Well -”  Just then Nippy’s mother yelled “Nippy! Burn! Time to visit Ember! That was what they were looking forward to all day! When they were at the island they saw that Ember and her siblings were  waiting for them at the beach         

    “Ember! Blister! Blaze! Scarlet! Fire! Bomb! Wing! Volcano! Summer!” Burn and Nippy exclaimed when they saw them “It’s been at least a month!” said Ember. When they were in Ember’s metal dome house, Burn and Nippy asked if they could play with Ember in  the backyard. “Hey Ember” Burn said “can you give us a tour of the island?” 

    “Okay!” said Ember                 

     “Let’s go to the Kingdom of the Gnomes First okay?” “Okay!” said Burn and Nippy. 

    It was a long walk to the Kingdom of the Gnomes so they took many breaks and they played in the sky blue water, ate their egg and cheese sandwiches, and played hide and seek. Once they got there a gnome about as tall as your knee greeted them with a bright smile 

    “Welcome Ember!”she said “I see you have brought friends! Would you like to take part in the spring feast?” Ember Burn and  Nippy accepted. The spring feast was very yummy. There were turkeys, and juice, and hot cross buns,and roasted chestnuts,and hard  boiled eggs. Well they were eating the king asked “So what are you doing in the Kingdom of the Gnomes?” 

    “Taking them for a tour.” Ember replied. 

    “Well then let me give you a tip.” the king said “Do not go to Ogre Town.”      

    Once they had left the Kingdom of the Gnomes they began to get curious about the warning. (Even Ember knew little about it.) 

    “What’s so bad about it?” and “I bet they are just scared.” they’d say.The gnomes had told them the way to Ogre Town so it was easy to find. Once they had reached Ogre town they hid behind a bush and watched the ogres walk and talk about...and then someone caught them so he threw a net on them and pulled them to a dim and dreary cave so dark that you couldn't imagine how dark it was! Thanks to Ember's fiery   feathers they could see each other; however,  all they really could do is talk. A  day passed and they still were not home! 

    “So what did you mean by ‘can we play in the backyard?’ ?”said Nippy 

    “Well mom and dad know that when we say ‘Can we play in the backyard' we mean ‘Can we play around the island" So they might not worry about us for a long  time.” said Ember.  

    All they were allowed to eat was food that tasted like nothing and by now Burn and Nippy had wished that they had never agreed to have the tour. 

    “Well we should be going to sleep now that there is nothing  else to do.” said Nippy 

    “Well that’s fine with me.” answered Burn. As soon as they fell asleep everyone dreamed about them being taken away from that horrible cave. They had finally woken up and the first thing they saw was an ogre! “

    Aaaaaaaahhhhh” they all said at the same time 

    “Quiet!” he said “I’ll explain everything later.” When they finally got calm enough to look around they saw that they were not in the cave nor in ogre town. “Where are we?”asked Ember 

    “Who are you?” 

    “Okay, now I'll tell.” said the ogre 

    “The other ogres don't like me,” he said “because my mom stole  a bottle of milk to to give to me.  She hid me, then she got taken away." he said with a sadly, you could also tell that he was sort of embarrassed by it, too. "I brought you to the the forest of ears because I just love seeing the confused expressions on the ogres faces when their captives have escaped."

    “But why would the ogres do that to your mother, it was such a small thing?!” asked Nippy in horror 

    “Why?”  

    “Ogre rules are stricter than you think.” the ogre replied “By the way what are your names?” 
    “Ember, Burn, and Nippy.” answered Ember. They walked in silence for a long time, thinking about how unfair the ogres were. They all went to sleep under the stars. When Ember woke up for one great second she thought that she was back home, but she wasn’t. 

    When Nippy woke up the first thing she thought was “This forest is-"  There was no word for it, the forest had sparkling dew drops all over that looked like clear glass crystals! It was an extraordinary sight. 

    Burn had a similar thought but his was “The forest was so ugly before!”  Finally after what seemed hours they headed for home. Little did they know they were walking the opposite direction.

    Burn, Nippy, Ember, and the ogre were still lost in the woods.They now were searching for the Kingdom of the centaurs, because Ember said that the Kingdom of the centaurs might be the closest to there.Good thing the gnomes gave them enough food to last them a journey. Bad thing ogres and dragons eat a lot!  So there was not much food for Ember and Nippy.

    Finally they reached the Kingdom of the centaurs. “Hey!” a centaur yelled “Who’s this!?” 

     A centaur woman with a baby answered “It looks like the people from the prophecy! Oh my!” Burn, Nippy, and Ember had no idea what was happening. The ogre on the other hand had some idea what was going on. “There is this prophecy for the centaurs about three different animals, that’s all I can remember,” he said.

Chapter 3

    Burn, Nippy, and Ember were taken by the leader of the centaurs (The ogre said he had enough adventure to last him for years.) to the great hall. There, in a glass box was the golden prophecy.  
 

Three animals, one a phoenix, one a dragon, and one a cat, that have been saved by an ogre, served by a goblin,  had flying lessons with a witch, and played with a dark dragon will save all centaurs.

    “Does the prophecy mean us?” asked Ember 

    “Of course it means you!” said the leader of the centaurs “You were even with an ogre!” Burn wasn't sure, for they had been saved by an ogre but they hadn't done all those other things. So Ember Burn and Nippy got together “Wait,” said Ember “Burn what type of dragon are you?” 

    “Me?” asked Burn in confusion “Of course I’m not a dark dragon. I’m a star dragon!” as Burn said this his orange changed into a night blue with little lights that looked like stars. “Some call us the bridge between the other two types of dragons: the evil dark dragons who are very bad, and the light dragons who are very good. We’re sort of in the middle."

    Nippy laughed, "You're certainly not perfect, that's for sure."
