Keyboards have largely functioned the same throughout their history, but mice have undergone some drastic changes in technology. The first "computer mouse" was carved with wood and only had 1 button. The next change was ball mice, where the ball moves along the surface and that tells the computer where the cursor should move. .

Modern gaming mice use optical or laser sensors to read the movement of the mouse. They used cables to connect to the computer, and many still do nowadays.

Top tier gaming mice are nearly flawless. There are many different shapes catered to how you grip the mouse, hand size, and for the type of game you are playing. Many also use wireless technology, using a wireless connection to a usb, or via Bluetooth. This allows for a cleaner desk space, and you don't have to worry about the cord dragging. Some even charge with the surface you play on, as long as you use a certain kind of mouse pad.
