Hi! My name is Scarlett. I am 7 years old. 

I was born in Michigan, but yesterday my parents told me that we are moving to Illinois.

I will have to go to a new school in Illinois. This makes me scared and nervous.

My parents say I will make new friends, but I am not sure.

“What if they don’t like me?” I ask my parents. I am afraid I will not have any friends.

“Of course they will like you! You will make lots of new friends.” say my parents.

The day is here! It is my first day of school. I am nervous because I do not have any friends yet.

I see some kids playing outside and I want to play, too, but I am nervous.

When I am nervous, I remember what my mom always tells me. “Take a deep breath and be yourself!”, she says.

So I take a deep breath and say, “Hi. My name is Scarlett. I’m new. Can I play with you?”

Introducing myself will help the other children get to know me. They might also introduce themselves to me!
