An Indigenous called Cantuña was commissioned by the pope to build a church in Quito, the church of San Francisco. He accepted and set a deadline of six months, in exchange for which he would receive a great amount of money. 

Although it seemed an impossible feat to finish it in six months, Cantuña put his best effort and determination to finish it. He gathered a team of indigenous people, and set out to finish it. However, the construction was not progressing as he hoped.

In those moments of anguish Lucifer appeared and said: “ ¡Cantuña! I am here to help you. I know your anguish, I will help you to build the incomplete atrium before the new day appears. In return, you will pay me with your soul”.

Cantuña accepted the deal, he only asked Lucifer for one condition, that he finish the construction of the church atrium as soon as possible and that all the stones must be placed.
