called England. Way back in the day. It spread all
around the whole world. The problems were People
started working in factories instead of working
outside on the farm with animals. The cities were
dirty and nasty. Even the little children had to
work. They did very hard work and made not a lot
of money.

Luddites were the people that
broke the machines and took
them down. They took down so
many machines families
started struggling for money.

Little small children were forced to work during the industrial
revolution. In 1833 was The Factory Act. They set limits on how many
hours kids could work and age limits to help the kiddos out a little bit.
Children 8 and younger could not work in factories.
Employers had to have an age certificate for their child workers.
Children between 9-13 years could work no more than 9 hours a day.
Children between 13-18 years could work no more than 12 hours a day.
Children could not work at night.
Four factory inspectors were appointed to investigate thousands of
factories throughout England and enforce the law (“1833 Factory
Acts”).

People created Utopian communities. Utopian means perfect
pretty place. So a guy named Robert Owen made a town for all
the people that worked for him. He gave them a nice home and
if they children were ten and under they were not allowed to
work in the factories. All these people were called the Utopian
