Stephanie wanted to go down the slide at the playground.

But she went too fast and fell.  She started to cry. Stephanie hurt her leg!

When Stephanie's mother found out what happened, she called the ambulance. Once it came, the EMTs rushed her to the ER. 

ER means emergency room, and an EMT is an Emergency Medical Technician.

The doctor examined Stephanie's injuries and determined she needed an XR. 

XR means

X-ray!

Stephanie went to the XR room in a w/c since she could not walk. 

The Radiologist looked at the results of her tests.

w/c means wheelchair!

Stephanie’s diagnosis was myitis and an Fx in her leg distal to her knee. Her prognosis was that her leg should heal in 4-6 weeks.

A diagnosis is a process of identifying a disease.

My- Muscle  itis- inflammation  Fx means fracture

Distal is farther from the point where a limb attaches to the body. A prognosis can include 

an estimate of the expected duration of a disease.

The doctor told Stephanie she needed an operation to realign the broken bones in her leg. She went to the OR and before the operation started she was put under GA. 

OR means operating room. GA is general anesthesia. Anesthesia is something that makes a patient comfortable during a procedure so they do not feel pain.

After her operation, Stephanie was prescribed to take 2 mL Ibuprofen, an NSAID, po pc.

An NSAID is a Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug,

ml means milliliters,

po means by mouth,

and pc means after meals

After Stephanie ate her lunch, she felt a little off. When she was in her room, the nurse came into the room to check her temperature, but she was afebrile. What could be the problem?

Afebrile means without a fever.

a= not, without

febrile= fever 

The nurse was worried that Stephanie wasn't feeling well, so she asked her what symptoms she had. Stephanie told the nurse she had cephalgia. Then, the nurse checked Stephanie's arms and discovered she had Urticaria proximal to her elbow! Poor Stephanie!

 Urticaria- itchy hives

Cephalgia- headache

ceph- head/algia- pain

The nurse reported that Stephanie had an allergic reaction to the Ibuprofen. She also gave Stephanie a cream to soothe the hives.

Luckily, her hives were gone! But Stephanie was very tired. It has been a hard week for her.  She had had problems in both halves of her body, superior and inferior to the mid-transverse plane.

 The mid-transverse plane is a horizontal cut that divides the body into superior and inferior portions. Superior to the plane means above it, and inferior would be below.
