Aa is for
Alligator-a large reptile with short legs, a long body and tail, and a long,
wide snout.


Bb is for
Black Bear (the Florida Black Bear)-The Florida black
bear are called omnivores because they eat both plant and
animals. A Florida black bears diet varies, but usually
consists of 80% plants, 15% insects, and 5% animal
matter.


Cc is for
Conch (Horse Conch Shell)-a sea animal with a soft body
and a large, spiral shell. Conches are carnivorous
mollusks that eat smaller mollusks such as clams.
Conches are closely related to snails.


Dd is for
Dolphin (Bottle-nose Dolphin)-a
mammal that lives in the water.
Dolphins look like large fish but
they breathe air. They have teeth
and a snout that looks like a beak.


Ee is for
Everglades (Florida Everglades)-a very large swamp in a warm climate.
Rivers or streams flow slowly through an everglade, and tall, thick
grass grows throughout.




Ff is for
Flamingos- a large, tropical, wading bird with
very long legs, a long neck, and bright pink or
red feathers.


Gg is for
Grasshopper (Lubber
Grasshopper)- a large,
stout, clumsy
grasshopper which feeds
of the orange trees in
Florida.


Hh is for
Heron (Great Blue Heron)-appear blue-
gray from a distance, with a wide black
stripe over the eye.


Ii is for-
Itch from a mosquito bite-an insect with a
thin body and two wings. The females bite
and suck the blood of animals and people.
Some mosquitoes spread disease.


Jj is for
Jellyfish (Portuguese Man-of-War)- a kind of
jellyfish that lives in warm oceans. Each man-
of-war is a colony or group of animals that live
together. The colony has many long stinging
tentacles that can hurt people or other
animals.


Kk is for
Kennedy Space
Center- it is the
United States
launch site that
has been used for
every NASA
human space
flight since
December 1968,
and it is located
on Merritt Island,
Florida.


Ll is for
Lake Okeechobee-
locally referred to
as "The Lake" or
"The Big O", it is
the largest
freshwater lake in
the state of Florida.
It is the seventh
largest freshwater
lake in the United
States.


Mm is for
Manatee (West Indian Manatee)- The Florida manatee, Florida’s
state marine mammal, is a large aquatic relative of the
elephant. Florida manatees play an important role in influencing
the plant growth in the shallow rivers, bays, estuaries, canals
and coastal waters they call home.


Nn is for
Nuthatch (Brown-headed Nuthatch)- The Brown-
headed Nuthatch is a small songbird found in pine
forests throughout the Southeastern United States.


Oo is for
Orange Blossom- is the fragrant
flower of the orange tree. It is used
in perfume making, and is the state
flower of Florida.



Pp is for
Panther ( Florida
Panther)- Florida’s
state animal, is one
of the most
endangered
mammals on
earth.Today, there
are less than 100
Florida panthers left
in the wild.


Qq is for-
Quiet when sea turtles lay their eggs-Florida
beaches are home to 80% of Loggerhead turtles in
the U.S.Turtles can migrate thousands of miles, but
usually return to lay their eggs on the same beach
where they hatched.


Rr is for-
Rain-The climate of
the north and central
parts of the US state
of Florida is humid
subtropical. South
Florida has a tropical
climate.There is a
defined rainy season
from June through
September.



Ss is for
Sunshine State-
Florida's nickname
is The Sunshine
State, it's beaches
draw thousands of
tourists every year.
