"Ok class," said Mr. DNA "Today we're going to
learn about what I do for a living. I am DNA. I
contain all genetic information for an
organism."

"My backbone is made up of three molecules, a
phosphate, a deoxyribose sugar, and a nitrogen
containing base. These groups are called nucleotides.
Each nucleotide is connected with hydrogen bonds.

When I want to have kids, I undergo
Replication. My body its slip apart by
my friend Dr. Helicase. I am now split
into two halves.

Wow!!!

Let's see if you have been paying attention.
Summarize the first step I have described so
far into a couple of sentences.

If you wrote that my backbone was made of
nucleotides that contain a phosphate,
deoxyribose sugar, and a nitrogen containing
base, then you have been a good student!

After I split, my neighbor, Mr. DNA Polymerase,
helps each half find more nucleotides to join the
halves and create 2 new DNA strands.

Teach us more,
teach us more!

Ok kids, time to start a new adventure. My
cousin RNA Polymerase comes by and
copies half of my information. The copy of
the information is called RNA. mRNA is
then my mailman who sends the
information to the ribosomes. This process
is called Transcription.

Pop Quiz! Who copies
half of my information?

My cousin RNA Polymerase
of course!

Once the information reaches the ribosome,
Senor rRNA helps the ribosome create amino
acids. Then, Ms. tRNA reads the mRNA and
translates it into proteins in a polypeptide
chain. This process is called translation.

Who helps the ribosome
create amino acids?

Mi amigo, Senor rRNA!

A codon is a group of three nucleotides in DNA,
mRNA, and rRNA. Anti-codons, are a group of
three nucleotides in tRNA. They are made up
of the complementary base pairs.
YAY!

Check up time: What are a group
of three nucleotides in tRNA?

ANTI CODONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Papa Endoplasmic Reticulum always has ribosomes
attached to its hip. He sends the ribosomes to school,
at the Golgi Apparatus High. There, they learn, and are
packaged and sent off elsewhere to a job.

Who sends his ribosome children
to school, where they learn, are
packaged, and are sent off?
