Dedicated to Ms. May!
After her First Communion, Tina felt her relationship with God strengthen. She learned a lot about herself and her faith.
Excited, she went to the church to ask Father Jerry about the next step in her faith journey—Reconciliation!
Good evening Tina!
Hi Father! I wanted to ask you about Reconciliation...
Tina saw Father Jerry cleaning up the church. When he saw her, he smiled.
Sure! What's on your mind?
How does Confirmation work?
Good question! Reconciliation is the next sacrament after your Communion, so you'll need to know how it works...
The priest cleared his throat, ready to explain...
"Reconciliation," Father Jerry said, "focuses on the act of confession, reparation and reconciliation with God. "
"The goal of Reconciliation is for self improvement and self understanding."
This sacrament usually takes place in a church. Like this one!
Though, a priest can also come to your school and it can take place there. All of this is done privately!
"First off, the penitent—that's you, Tina! makes the sign of the cross and must tell the priest, 'Bless me father, for I have sinned.' Before they confess their sins.
"If the penitent has confessed before, they must tell the priest when they last confessed..."
Wait! What if I forget the exact date?
No worries! You can just list off weeks, months or years.
Father went on, "After confessing your sins, the priest will give you a penance to complete. A penance can include saying a specific prayer or apologizing to someone.
"Not only that," he said, "but the priest will give you advice relating to your sins."
