How Booter 

Came to Be

Booter was the first soccer ball ever created, 

he was born in 1836.   His inventor was named 

Charles Goodyear who lived in Philadelphia. 

Goodyear was the first ever to come up with a 

soccer ball made out of rubber.

Before that, soccer balls like Booter were just 

pig bladders that were shaped as spheres. So 

these could be easily used for the game of 

soccer. Booter and many other balls like him 

are used for soccer games across the globe. 

Lets follow Booter throughout his life journey, 

and see how he evolved into what he is today. 

During the Ts'in and Han Dynasties (255 BC-

220 AD) they played with animal-skin balls.  

Before there were leather soccer balls, Booter 

and his friends were only animal bladders. But 

Booter didn't like this because that meant that 

animals were being killed to make him.

Luckily for Booter in the early 1900s bladders 

were made with stronger rubber and could 

withstand heavier pressure. This allowed 

Booter to explore more things. 

In the early 1950's Booter and his friends were 

being made different colors, such as orange 

and white. This made it easier for spectators to 

watch them do their job on the field. 

Eventually in the 1960s Booter and his friends were 

made out of synthetic materials to help them run faster 

across the field and to not get weighed down when it 

starts to rain.  

In 1980 synthetic balls like Booter completely 

replaced the leather balls.

Today there are many different kids 

of Booters all over the world.
