My door slams open and the lights turn on in a hurry. “Good morning Ava!” my mom says cheerily, “Let me help you up.” She swings my legs over the side of the bed and I grab on to her neck.
“1, 2, 3!” I exclaim before I am whisked into my chair. “Thanks mom. Ooh! What smells so good?”
“Oh, I made pancakes for your first day of second grade.”
“Yummy!”

I race down the hallway quicker than lightning. Rolling to a stop, I breathe deeply. My mom makes the best pancakes in the whole wide world! She’s the best cook ever. I get to eat 2 ginormous pancakes with strawberries and whip cream!
“Good morning Ava,” greets my dad from behind a newspaper.
“Hi daddy! I had a dream last night that you and I were flying through space! We were super fast.” I chomp down on a big bite of pancake and my dad laughs.

“Let’s get you ready for school my little astronaut,” he says when my pancakes are all done. He wheels me to my room making alien noises and I move my arms like I’m soaring!
I get to pick out my own outfits now, so I get my favorite pink dress with white leggings and my shoes with the bows on them! I can almost get dressed all by myself, but I still need help sometimes. When I go back into the kitchen, my mom said that I was the prettiest astronaut she has ever seen!

I grab my lunchbox off the table and wheel myself into the garage to my mom’s van. I can’t take the bus because of my chair, but my mom likes driving me. Plus, we get to listen to fun music.
When I get to school, all of my friends are getting off the bus. We go through the main office and my mom makes sure that I get to my classroom alright. We get to go all the way across the school to the elevator and ride in it before class!

When I get to class, I put my backpack on my hook and go inside to my table. I sit next to my friends Kelly and Robin. They always help me around the classroom if I can’t move around too easily.
Today, there was a coloring sheet in front of everyone. It was a picture of flowers and my teacher Miss Smith said to color it however we wanted! I used all of my favorite colors: pink, purple, blue, and green. I even drew some bugs and birds around the flowers.

Kelly turned my picture in to the basket. I didn’t really get to see anyone else’s drawings, but I know they will be put up in the hall to see later.
My teacher reads us a story about spring and what kinds of things we can see outside. Everyone sits on the reading rug and I sit on the side. I get to see the pictures really well from here.

After reading the book, Miss Smith shows us her pet bunny from home. His name is Carrots and he’s staying with us all day! She put him in a play pen and we all got to take turns petting him!
When it was my turn, Miss Smith sat him in my lap and I got to hold him! He was so cute and fluffy. Robin says she has a bunny at home, but it isn’t as cute as Carrots.

After petting Carrots, we all lined up to wash our hands, but the sink in our classroom is too tall, so I went down the hall to the bathroom. Kelly and Robin went with me and helped open the door for me.
Our bathroom has one sink that is tall and one that is short. The short one is the perfect size for me to wash my hands! We sing the alphabet song two whole times before we leave with clean hands.

Miss Smith gave us all a special treat. She made carrot cake and we all got to try a bit! I liked the frosting the best. We ate our snack and did calendar time together. We got to listen to the April song, the counting song, and the weather song!
We learned a new song today, and it taught us how to say the alphabet but with our hands! I liked the letter X because it looked like a hook.

Next it was time to go to gym. My class is really good and being quiet in the hallway. We are doing the mile today, and my teacher said I stay in the room and read or I can go watch my friends run. I wanted to cheer for my friends!
Kelly is the fastest girl in our class. She was almost faster than Jake, but he got to the end before her this time. I cheered for her so loud that I think everyone could hear me.
