Join us on a trip to the Solar System where we will see and learn about all the planets.  I am Miss Luna and these are my students Leo and Lyra.

I'm soo excited!

We will start with the sun and work our way to all the planets from there.  It is going to be an exciting trip.

YEAH!!!

We are almost at the Sun.

Although the sun appears to be huge, in reality it is just an average size star.  Without the sun life on earth would be impossible.  The sun commis-sions the weather, seasons, climate and makes plant life possible. 

We are almost at the first planet in our solar system- Mercury.

Mercury is a terrestrial planet.  It is mostly made of iron and has a very hard surface.  It is also the smallest planet in our solar system.

Coming up next is Venus. Venus is a very unusual planet with many interesting facts.  First, Venus along with Uranus spin in the opposite direction than all the other planets.  

Venus is also the hottest of the planets, even hotter than Mercury although Mercury is closer to the Sun.  Venus is known as the most beautiful planet, named after the Roman goddess of beauty.  Lastly, Venus is the brightest of all the planets.

It looks really cool!

Up next is Mars. Mars is known as the Red Planet because of all the iron in its soil.

Although mars is red and looks hot, it is actually really cold.  Mars has huge dust storms which last for months and can cover the entire planet.  Mars also has two moons named Phobos and Deimos.

2. That was an Asteroid. Asteroid are small, rocky objects that orbit the sun.  They are leftovers from the formation of our solar system.

Jupiter is the next planet in line and by far the largest planet in our solar system.

Jupiter is the fastest spinning planet in the solar system.  And although you can't see them Jupiter has rings.  Jupiter also has 80 moons.
