Once upon a time, there lived a prince named Prince
Michael and a princess named Princess Tina.
They both knew that one day they will be the leader of
their village and needed to be strong and
understanding leaders.
However, there was one problem. One was too nice
and quiet and the other was mean towards others and
did not think before she spoke.

Prince Michael was what people would describe as
passive. He let others make a choice for him but
then would regret that he did not say what he
really wanted. He was often quiet and never gave
his opinion. When he did speak, he spoke softly,
making it hard for others to hear him.
Because of his passive personality, Prince Michael
was not confident and others often took advantage
of him.
He wished that he was more confident and was
able to tell others his opinions.

the street market.

Princess Tina on the other hand has an aggressive
personality. She was the opposite of her brother.
She had no problem with speaking her mind and did
not think before she spoke. She would not allow
others to speak. She really did not care what others
had to say. When she disagreed with others, she
often did it in a rude way and put others down or
used sarcasm. People thought she was too bossy
and did not like being around her.
Princess Tina knew that others did not like being her
friend and she was realizing she needed to change
her behavior.

One night, before Prince Michael and Princess Tina
went to bed, a fairy jumped out of one of their fairy
tale books. They were surprised!
"Hello children. My name is Fairy Mary. I know
that one day you two will be the leaders of your
village and that you both want to be strong and
respectful leaders. You want to be assertive
leaders," said Fairy Mary.
"Assertive? What does that mean?" asked Prince
Michael.

"Assertive means that you are able to speak up for
yourself and others in an honest and respectful way.
You are able to say what you want or need, disagree
in a respectful way, offer ideas or suggestions, listen
to others ideas or opinions and say no without
feeling guilty," said Fairy Mary.
"When you are assertive, will people like you and
want to be your friend?" asked Princess Tina.
"Yes! They would respect you more as you would be
respecting them," said Fairy Mary.

"I know that you both wish that you were either not
too aggressive or not too passive. I am going to
make your wish come true and be just right and be
assertive. To make your wish come true I will
sprinkle fairy dust on you and when you wake up in
the morning, you may feel different but will feel good
about yourself. You will both wake up prepared and
ready to be good future leaders of your village!"
