I. Overview Of Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City, or as locals often secretly call Saigon, is one of the most fascinating destinations when traveling Vietnam. Located in the south, it is the largest and most populous city in the country. Prejudiced and recognized as the “Pearl of the Far East” during the Indochina era, modern-day Saigon attracts people not only for its spectacular natural scenery but also for its dynamic lifestyle. A transportation hub, a religious hub and an entertainment hub, Ho Chi Minh City is a must-see for your exploration.
II. Transportation in Ho Chi Minh City
For first-time visitors to Saigon, the traffic here can be overwhelming due to the large number of motorbikes and chaotic flow. But this is the one of Saigon's 'specialties' and one to miss. As the most modern city in the country, the transportation system is very well developed. This is a great starting point for trips and for exploring other cities in Southern Vietnam.
Plane
Tan Son Nhat International Airport is the country's main port, with a large capacity that allows it to serve domestic passengers and welcome international travelers. Vietnam Airlines is the official national carrier of other commercial airlines such as VietJet Air, Jetstar Pacific and Bamboo Airways.
Train
Vietnam's railway is the one of the oldest industries in the country. The total length of the rail network is 4,161 km and includes his five main lines connecting his 34 cities across the country. The longest railway line is the north-south route between Saigon and the capital, Hanoi. It runs almost parallel to National Route 1A, so you can see the changing scenery everywhere.
Bus
Short-distance bus: Buses in Vietnam do not have dedicated lanes, so traveling by bus during rush hour can be very slow. That may explain its low popularity. This is an attempt to encourage the use of public transportation.
Motorbike
Motorbikes - the iconic image of all Vietnamese cities, are the most common means of transportation. Most of the time, Saigon is teeming with countless scooters honking to give way. Helmets are mandatory when boarding and face masks are recommended to reduce the effects of pollution.
III. Accommodation in Ho Chi Minh City
As mentioned earlier, Saigon has the busiest airport in the country, welcoming millions of tourists each year. Saigon is the most affordable gateway for international travelers to enter the country. As a result, a variety of
accommodation options have emerged to meet the demands of the city's tourism industry. No matter what your budget or purpose of your trip, you will always love it.
Ho Chi Minh City has a wide range of five-star hotels for a luxurious vacation. They are in the best parts of the city, especially those left over from the French colonial era, with views of the Saigon River and the constant flow of traffic.
If Saigon is just a transit point for your trip and you're just looking for a place to stay for the night, the city has plenty of inexpensive homestays, guesthouses and Airbnbs. Aesthetics are also taken into account when designing hotels in line with trends, so you're sure to find a hotel that's both affordable and unique.
IV. Top 5 places to eat in Ho Chi Minh City
Do you like food?

TOP 1: Rice Noodles With Fried Tofu & Fermented Shrimp Paste: "BUN DAU MAM TOM"
This is kind of an extreme dining experience for many. Bun Dau Mam Tom comes in a small tray with braised pork, fried diced tofu and your choice of toppings. The star of the dish is the Mam Tom dipping sauce (fermented shrimp sauce). The smell is quite strong, but after mixing the kumquat juice, sugar and fresh chilies, it brings out the best flavors of all the ingredients.
Bun Dau A Chanh
Address: 200 Cong Quynh St, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1
Bun Dau 46
Address: 187 Nguyen Van Thu St, Da Kao Ward, District 1
Saigon is sometimes said to be unprofessional. This is because people from all over the country come to Saigon in search of jobs and a better standard of living, eventually bringing the local cuisine to the city as well. But there's one thing the city's cuisine does better than anywhere else. That is Com Tam.
A quintessential Com Tam Saigon is a plate of steamed smashed rice topped with grilled pork ribs, egg tarts, fried eggs, and shredded pork skin with pickled cucumbers, tomatoes and carrots. To round out the flavor, there is a small bowl of chili-garlic fish sauce served with the rice.

Banh Xeo is a kind of crispy pancake that is eaten by being wrapped in a sheet of rice paper with some green herbs and dipped in sweet and sour fish sauce. There are two versions of Banh Xeo: Banh Xeo in the South (Banh Xeo Nam Bo) is thinner, bigger, and less oily while Banh Xeo from the Central (Banh Xeo Mien Trung) is smaller, crispier and oilier.

Banh Mi is basically a baguette stuffed with various ingredients such as Vietnamese pork sausage, char siu, fried egg and pickled vegetables. It's convenient, cheap and delicious.
