Lunar New Year (Tết Nguyên Đán)

Lunar New Year is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar. It is the most important holiday in Vietnam, and it is also widely celebrated in South Korea, Japan, China, and countries with a significant overseas Vietnamese population. While the official dates encompassing the holiday vary by culture, those celebrating consider it the time of the year to reunite with immediate and extended family.

While the Lunar New Year is a time of traditions and beliefs, the most important aspect of celebrating the holiday is having a great time with family and friends! I remember when I was around 10 years old, my uncle who was a pretty rich man accidentally gave me a lì xì twice because he was drunk. Each of the red envelop he gave me had a $100 dollar bill inside and so I got a total of $200 from him that one Lunar New Year. I was super happy and I wish that he would get drunk again next Lunar New Year so that I will get another opportunity to receive more money from him.
