BALANCE and BLEND are important concepts when playing in a band, or other musical ensemble. 

Within each piece you play, you must know your role in the music so you can adjust your sound, and dynamic accordingly. 

We will explore these concepts through the pyramid of sound. 

NOTE: It is important to remember that your role can change within a piece, and you must use your musical knowledge to determine your place in the pyramid at any given moment. 

As a general rule, the higher the instrument you play, the closer to the top of the pyramid you will be. Conversely, the lower the instrument you player, the closer to the bottom of the pyramid you will be.
