Introduction
What foods do you eat? What traditions do you have? What holidays do you celebrate? Korea has many traditions, foods, cultures and more! Today I’m going to tell you everything about Korean culture!
Korean Food
There are many types of foods in Korea. For example, Samgyetang is a Korean soup with chicken, garlic, green onion, and broth with rice. Some foods are as simple as pork belly meat!
Kimchi is an essential side dish in Korean cuisine. It is a fermented vegetable eaten at every meal.
Kimchi is delicious and also has probiotics. Also, Doenjangjjigae is a stew made with tofu, soybean paste, vegetables and anchovy broth. It is eaten in small amounts with rice. Koreans eat meals with side dishes called Banchan. Some examples are soybean sprouts, roasted seaweed and rolled eggs.
Korean Holidays
Korea has many holidays. Hangul Day is celebrated on October 9th to honor the day that the Korean language was made by King Se Jong. Another Korean holiday is Chuseok, Thanksgiving Day. It is when Koreans harvest in the fall. Lunar New Year is the first day of the year according to the Lunar calendar.
Children’s Day is celebrated on May 5th to show respect to children and promote happiness in the family. Parents or grandparents give gifts to the children. Independence Movement Day is celebrated on March 1st to mark one of the earliest public displays of Korean Resistance against Japan. The movement began with 33 Korean cultural and religious leaders.
