If you do want to know if it will rain today, how do you 

find out?

Do you look at the clouds?

Do you watch the news forecast?

If so, you are not alone! There is actually a group 

of scientists that are always looking for new 

ways to track and figure out the weather for not 

only today, but tomorrow too.

These scientists are called:

Meteorologists

Wow! That's a big word! Try to get an adult to 

help you say that word!

Meteorologists do many things!

They study the atmosphere! 

An atmosphere is the sky that surrounds the 

Earth. It is were the most weather patterns 

start to occur. 

The Meteorologists look to find out how the 

atmosphere affects the world and all the 

people on it everyday.

Meteorologists also are the scientists who find 

out whether or not it will rain today.

Meteorologists have to work all the time 

because the weather is always changing.

They usually work in offices or laboratories.

Sometimes they work alone, but other times 

they work in groups.

They observe their data on their computers all 

the time. They have to give a good report of 

what the weather is doing now and in the 

future.

Meteorologists have to be very brave and very 

careful.

Sometimes their job requires them to go 

outside and get data from a storm up-close!

These storms can even have tornadoes in 

them!

Wow! Can you imagine standing face-to-face 

with a tornado?
