Chapter 1
Aila
"You said yes," I say looking at myself in the mirror. Just then I hear a knock on the door. "Come in," I say. The doors flew open and in came Olivia saying, "I just heard the news! Congratulations!" Olivia then hugs me tight.
"Thank you," I say hugging her back. Olivia stops hugging me, looks me in the eyes and says, "Why aren't you happy?" "What?" I say, "No, I'm happy, trust me I'm really happy." "You don't sound happy," Olivia says. "Well," I say, "I am, I just need to get some rest." "Are you lying to me, Princess Aila," asks Olivia. "No," I say, "I would never. And that is very rude of you to say, Princess Olivia," I say back to her.
We both start laughing. "I'm gonna miss this," I admit, "I'm gonna miss all these moments with you." "I will, too," Olivia says. We both sit in silence. "Well," I say, "You should probably get to need before curfew. You don't want father to think you've been kidnapped."
Olivia laughs. "I guess your right," she says. "I'm always right," I say. We both start to laugh again. "Okay," Olivia says, "I should leave as you said." As Olivia starts to walk away, she turns back around toward me and says, "Goodnight."
"Goodnight," I say back. Olivia then leaves the room and closes the door. I sigh. I close my closet door, put away my makeup and hair supplies, pull the covers back and lay in my bed.
I sigh once more. I look over to the other side of my bed and feel around it. Soon there would be another person in this bed with
me, falling asleep with me.
And that person would be Prince Alexander the one whom I'm marrying.
Chapter 2
Victoria
"I don't know why Aila would want to get married," I say to my friend Mae on the phone, "I mean who wants to?" "Marrying isn't a bad thing," Mae said, "I mean, I want to get married and have four kids. I think it's just you who's not okay with Aila getting married."
"No," I say, "I'm totally fine. Besides, once Aila moves out with her Prince Charming, I'm gonna get her bedroom which is the biggest one in the whole entire castle! Besides mom and dads bedroom."
"Don't you call your parents mother and father?" "I can call them whatever I want," I say.
"But isn't it not sophisticated to say, mom and dad?" asks Mae. "Yeah, but I don't care," I say, "Because I'm not as sophisticated as they think I am."
"But, you should be," says Mae. I didn't answer for a little while until I admitted, "Okay, yes, I should be sophisticated and all but that's not who I really am. I'm just a girl who wants her freedom and rights."
"Yes, girl," says Mae on the phone. I laugh. Just then I hear a knock on the door. "Who is it?" "The person who's come to say it's past your curfew." "Oh, it's just the butler," I say to Mae. "Okay, well if it's your curfew I should just hang up."
"Yeah, I guess so. Talk to ya tomorrow?" "Definitely," Mea says. She then hangs up the phone. "May I come in?" asks Matthew the butler.
"No," I say, "I'm going to bed now."
I jump in my bed, pull the covers over my body, and then turn off the light switch that's right next to my bed.
Chapter 3
Olivia
Next day. . .
"Olivia dear," said mom, "Will you come to meet me for tea in the garden?" "Of course, mother," I say in response.
"What do you need?" I asked picking up my tea and taking a quick sip. "Of course, you know that Victoria doesn't act like a princess." "Yes," I say, "She would much rather be like her other friends who aren't princes and princesses."
"Yes," mother said, "And that's the problem. You and Victoria are going to be Aila's bridesmaids but Victoria doesn't want to be, and I was wondering if you could just persuade her." I look at mother in the eyes and say, "That will be a little tough.
Because Victoria doesn't really listen to me instead she ignores me. So I don't know how I could persuade her."
"I know it will be a little hard but we've got to try." I sigh and say, "Alright, I'll try." Mother claps her hands and smiles. "Thank you, Olivia. You have no idea how much this means to me."
I smile back at mother and continue to sip my tea little by little.
I knock on the door. "Who is it?" asks Victoria. "It's me, Olivia." "What do ya need?" she asks. "I just need to talk to you for a second," I say. "Okay go ahead," Victoria says. "Can I come in, Victoria?" I ask.
"First of all, it's Vicky, second of all fine." I open the door and go and sit with Victoria on her bed. "So Victoria, I mean Vicky, I need to talk to you about Aila's wedding."
Victoria groans. "Look, mom already talked about it to me and I said I didn't want to be Aila's bridesmaid. Kay? "No" means no." "Please, Vicky! This wedding is very important to mother and to Aila. So please just do it!"
"No," Vicky said, "I will not get in a dress and walk down the aisle with some random guy I don't even know!" "Okay," I say, "First of all you do know him, it's Alexander's brother, William. Second of all, I'm going to walk down the aisle, too, just with Alexander's other brother, James."
Victoria looks at me for a while until she finally says, "I'll think about it." I smile. "But hey," Victoria says, "Don't get your hopes up and think I'm gonna say "Yes" because I might not." "Okay," I say smiling.
Victoria starts to smile as well.
I walk out of the room smiling and say to myself, "And mother and I thought it was going to be hard. Guess we were both wrong." I start to laugh.
Chapter 4
Aila
"Aila," mother said knocking on my door, "Prince Alexander's coming for dinner tonight to discuss a few wedding situations with you."
"Thank you for letting me know, mother," I say. "Aila," mother says, "May I come in?" "Of course," I say. Mother opens the doors and comes to sit right by me. "Are you worried about the wedding?" she asks. "What? No," I say, "I've been waiting for this to happen ever since I turned ten."
Mother gives me a concerned look. "Look," she says, "I know you're scared, I was scared, too, when your father asked me to marry him. Trust me."
I giggle. Mother continues, "But I did it. I married your father and had three beautiful girls."
I smile. "I love you, mother," I say. "I love you, too, baby," mother says back. Mother then kisses me on the forehead and leaves my bedroom.
As I walk down the garden I see Victoria. "Victoria," I say waving my hand. Victoria rolls her eyes and comes up to me and says, "Okay, my name is Vicky and what do you need?" "I don't need anything I was just saying "hello"." "Oh," says Victoria, "Well, then sorry. I've just been really tired and grumpy lately so yeah."
"It's okay," I say, "I forgive you." Victoria smiles at me. Then Victoria says, "You wanna walk with me? You can say no if
you want, I was just asking."
"Of course," I say, "I would love to walk with you." Both Victoria and I smile at each other and enjoy our walk together.
Chapter 5
Victoria
"So I heard Alexander's coming for dinner," I say. "Yeah, he is," Aila responds, "Mother told me that a few hours ago."
"Why do you say "Mother" why not just "mom"?" I ask. "Because," Aila explained, "It's what we're supposed to call her." We walk in the garden in silence until Aila says, "Why don't you call her "mother"?" "I don't know," I admit, "Maybe because I just. . . you know what I don't actually know."
We both start laughing. "Do you want me as your bridesmaid?" I ask. Aila looks at me and says proudly, "Of course, I want you as my bridesmaid. Why wouldn't I?" "Well, you have all your friends and Olivia so you know I didn't think you would want
me as one of your bridesmaids."
"Victoria," Aila says, "I mean Vicky." I start to giggle. Aila continues, "You and Olivia are my sisters. I wouldn't want any other bridesmaids beside you and Olivia. And I mean it."
I start to smile.
"Thank you," I say. Aila smiles. "Also," I begin, "You can call me Victoria if you want. I don't mind." "Nah," Aila says, "It's fine. Besides the name Vicky suits you."
We both smile at each other and continue our walk down the garden.
Chapter 6
Olivia
"Father," I say. "Yes, my dear?" "May I talk to you?" "Of course, darling," he says without hesitation. "What's the matter?" he asks concerned. "Will I ever be as good as Aila and Victoria?" "Why do you ask?" father says.
"Because," I say, "I'm worried that I might not be as successful as them. Because they know just what to do in every situation that comes their way and I'm still learning how to do that."
"Darling," father says, "You don't have to be just like your sisters you can be whatever you want to be." I look down at the floor. "Princess Olivia," says father lifting up my head, "You are the daughter of the King and Queen of Ladeeria.
Don't be ashamed of who you are."
I smile. "Look, I know you want to be like them, but you shouldn't. Because I love you for who you are." "Thank you, father," I say, "I really needed that encouragement." I then leave the library.
Mother then walks towards me and says, "What were you doing in the library?" "I was having a conversation with father," I respond.
"About what?" mother asks. "Some father-daughter things," I say. "Father-daughter things," mother repeats.
Yes, mother," I say. "Okay," mother says, "But if you need anything from me, just ask. Okay?"
"I promise, mother. I will," I say. Mother smiles and kisses me on the forehead.
I walk away and go to my bedroom after that.
Once I'm in my bedroom I start to laugh and say, "Mother always wants to know what's going on. Because if she doesn't know. . . then she gets mad."
I start to laugh again.
Chapter 7
Aila
I started to get ready for dinner so did Victoria and Olivia, and when we all came out of our rooms all Olivia did was admire both Victoria's dress and mine.
"We both look stunning!" Olivia exclaimed. "Thank you," Victoria and I say at the same time. "Although," Victoria said, "The one thing I don't like about this dress is that it's a dress." Olivia and I start laughing.
"You never like any of your dresses," Olivia said. As soon as Olivia said that Victoria was ready to come up with her comeback but never did and instead said, "True."
We all start laughing.
