With dedication to my son Mikey,
Who sees the magic of the world through his glasses unlike anybody else xx

Don't worry son,
I know just
the thing!
Meet Jasper! Jasper loves to read books, play with his friends, and explore the world around him. But lately, he's been having trouble seeing things clearly. The pictures in his books are blurry, and he sometimes bumps into things when he's playing. He sometimes felt sad because his eyes seemed 'fuzzy' and he didn't understand why. He sometimes found it hard to keep up with his friends during games because he couldn't see the ball or other objects very well.
"Sometimes when I try my hardest mum, my head hurts too. Why do I feel like this?" Jaspers Mum had an idea.
"Lets go and visit the eye doctor." she said.

Jaspers Mum took him to see an eye doctor called an Optician. This is a special kind of doctor who helps people see better. They check your eyes to see if you need glasses, and if you do, they help you choose the best glasses for you. Opticians are very friendly and they love helping people choose glasses so that they can enjoy reading, playing, and exploring the world around them! The Optician checked Jaspers eyes and said, "Jasper needs glasses to give his eyes a little bit of help. Would you like to choose some glasses, Jasper?"
Jasper felt scared when he heard that he needed glasses. He didn't know what they were or how they would make him feel. But his mum told him that glasses would help him see things better and that they could be fun to wear. The Optician let Jasper choose glasses that he liked and that made him feel happy.
Jasper went home that night and started to feel very worried. What if people laughed at him for wearing glasses? This made him feel scared.

I don't want to wear glasses! Everybody will make fun of me!
The next day, Jasper went to school feeling excited to learn new things. But when he tried to read and do his work, he found it really hard because the writing was blurry. His friends noticed that something was wrong and asked him why he was upset. Poor Jasper felt embarrassed and didn't want to tell them that he couldn't see the writing. He started to feel really worried that everybody would laugh at him. Can you imagine how sad and scared he must have felt?
