Sophia's Lemonade Stand
By: Gracie Taylor

Today is the first day of summer break. "I think I will go shopping!" Sophia says.

"Mom, can we go to the mall today? I really want to buy a new case for my iPad!" Sophia begged.
Her mother started to think. "Hmmm. How are you going to pay for this new iPad case?" Mom asked.

"You aren't going to buy it for me?" Sophia asked.
"No, Sophia. I think it is time you worked for some of your own money."
"What? I can't make my own money! I'm not an adult!" Sophia exclaimed.

Mom giggled. "There are lots of ways you can make money at your age!" Mom said. "Think about something you can make and think about how you can sell it."

Sophia went back to her bedroom. She started to think about what she could sell to make her own money. After what felt like forever, she finally made a decision.
"I've got it! I'll start a lemonade stand! It's very hot outside, so I can set up at the park where lots of people will be thirsty!" Sophia yelled in excitement.
"Mom, I know what I am going to do! I am going to start a lemonade stand!" Sophia shouted.
"That's a great idea, Sophia! First, we will have to go get the supplies from the grocery store. You can repay me for the supplies after you are finished selling lemonade," Mom said.

So off they went to the grocery store. Sophia and her mom got all of the supplies that Sophia needed to make lemonade. They bought sugar, lemons, and lots of cups.

As soon as Sophia got home, she got straight to work. She wanted to make as much lemonade as she could before she set up her stand in the park.

The next morning, Sophia got up extra early. She made a sign, loaded her lemonade into the car, and was ready to go. She started feeling nervous on the way there, worried that no one would show up to her lemonade stand.

"Mom, what if no one shows up?" Sophia asked.
Her mother smiled, "Sophia, you just have to believe in yourself. I know people are going to show up."

Sophia got to the park and set up her stand. She poured her lemonade into cups, set up her sign, and waited.
Sophia waited...and waited...and waited. It seemed like no one was going to show up!
