Once upon a time there was a boy named Matt. One day
he was asked by her parents "what do you wanna be
dear when you grow up?" Matt responded " I wanna be a
psychologist!"

But the problem was Matt really didn't know what
psychology was all about.. and he wanted to learn! So
he went out to search for information...

He went out to find a teacher to ask! The teacher he
found was a science teacher, his name was Mr. Brown.
When Matt asked Mr. Brown what psychology was about
he said "Well I'm the right person to ask! Psychology has
everything to do with science! Especially chemistry!"

Matt looked at Mr. Brown very confused.. He asked
"How does science and chemistry have anything to do
with psychology?", "They have everything to do with
psychology!!" responded Mr. Brown.

Mr. Brown explained how psychology and chemistry are
very common because they both have to do with
chemical reactions. Psychology is all about figuring out
how the brain works, and the brain is FULL of all
different types of chemical reactions. And chemistry is all
about figuring out chemical equations, in chemistry you
take 2 or more different solutions mix them together and
figure out what that mixture will make! Kind of like when
you make lemonade! You mix sugar, lemon, and water
all together and it makes a whole new drink, it makes
lemonade!

The brain is kind of like making lemonade! Except,
you don't actually have lemons and sugar in your
brain! Instead its a whole bunch of different chemicals
and acids. And when you're a psychologist your job is
to figure out what happens to your brain when these
different kinds of chemicals and acids mix together.
Psychologists figure out which chemicals in your brain
make you sad, or happy, or mad, or even make you
fall in love!

When Mr. Brown finished
explaining this to Matt, he was
finally a little less confused. Matt
said "WOW! psychology really
does have a lot to do with
science!" "Its all about chemicals
and mixing them together to
make something new!" Mr.
Brown responded "Yes Matt it is!
And when you mix chemicals
together that's called a
chemical equation"
"Well Mr. Brown what
exactly is a chemical
equation?"

"Mr. Brown what is exactly a chemical equation?"
Mr. Brown explained to Matt that a chemical equation
consists of reactants and products. A reactant is this
the chemical in a chemical equation that changes
during a reaction. And a product is the new chemical
that is being made. A chemical equation kinda looks
like this...
A + B --> C
_____
__
These are the reactants
This is
the Product

"So" Matt said, "when you make lemonade the water,
lemons, and sugar are all of the reactants? and the
product is the lemonade that you made?" "EXACTLY!!"
Mr. Brown responded. "Well I love science cause I love
making lemonade! yummy!!" Matt said excitedly.
