It was Jamie’s first day back at school after his
long stay in the hospital. Jamie had been very
sick. The doctors all agreed that he would now
benefit from using a wheelchair. So Jamie's
parents bought him a cool new wheelchair.

All of Jamie’s friends were really excited that
he was coming back to school. They could not
wait to see his new wheelchair. Jamie was
nervous and worried about how he was going
to cope and how his friends would react when
they saw him in a wheelchair for the first
time.

On Jamie’s way to class, he was thinking
about how he would be able to play with his
friends at lunchtime. No one had ever had a
wheelchair in his class before. All of Jamie’s
friends were so happy to see him when he got
to class. They all rushed around him and gave
him big hugs, smiles and high 5’s.

It was almost lunchtime and Jamie was really
worried. He couldn't help wondering if his
friends would leave him out of their games.
How was his wheelchair going to go on the
playground? Would he ever be able to play in
the sand pit or on the monkey bars again?

After eating their lunch, Liam and Zac
wheeled Jamie out onto the oval to play ball.
They came up with a game of throwing and
catching. Jamie had so much fun throwing
the ball. He really liked this game and felt
very happy.

The next day at the start of lunch, Jamie was
still worried. What if they wanted to play
something that he couldn't? But before he
could think about it again, Sarah and Emma
asked him to be the judge of their handstand
competition. Jamie was a GREAT judge! He
also had a lot of fun and felt very important.

By Wednesday, Jamie was looking forward to seeing
what new game he would play at lunchtime. That day,
Jamie wanted to play with all of his friends. He came
up with a FABULOUS idea! Jamie got everyone to sit
down in a chair and together they played musical
statues. The rules were that they could only move
their arms and head.
