About the Author

My name is Hannah Palenshus and I am in my fifth year of college at Akron University. I have one semester left before I will be able to teach grades k-5. In my free time, I like to be with friends and family, read new books, and do anything outdoors, I love hiking! I am looking forward to becoming an elementary teacher because I love helping kids and making a meaningful impact on their lives!

It was the first day of first grade, and Theo was nervous. He looked at his wheelchair and frowned. "What if the other kids don't want to play with me?" He thought. 

Theo's mom walked into his room to help him get dressed and reassured him that he would have a great first day. 

When Theo first entered the classroom he looked around until he spotted his best friend Luca. Luca called over, "Come sit next to me Theo!" 

Seeing Luca helped calm his nerves as he rolled over to the empty spot beside him.

When recess finally came, all the kids rushed outside to the playground. Theo watched as they ran to the slide, the jungle gym, and the soccer field. He stayed on the edge of the playground, feeling unsure.
