I Have an Idea!
Elli and Lisa, two sisters who live in Australia were bored and wanted
an adventure. Elli, eight years old, loved scary things. Her sister Lisa,
was five, and loved animals; in fact, she felt like she could even talk to
animals. Sparky, a German shepherd dog bit a chew toy as the girls
talked.
"I know! I want to go to Buru Wang Island. I heard there are sharks
and wolves that guard the entrance to the island," Elli said, "and that
on one has ever returned from visiting that island."
*Buru Wang is an aboriginal word for island.

"That does sound like fun, Lisa said," but how are we going to
convince Mom to go?"
"We are going to need to trick her to take us to the island," Elli said.
Lisa and Elli continued to think of a plan as they put on their jammies
and prepared for bed. Later about midnight, Elli had the perfect idea.
"I know, we could promise to do all the chores for a month if she will
take us to Buru Wang Island!" Elli said.
"Oh yes, that will work!" Lisa responded.
The girls fell asleep thinking of their wonderful adventure.
The next morning at breakfast, the girls smiled at each other and
started their plan.

"Mom, if we do your chores for a month would you take us to Buru
Wang Island for an adventure?" Elli asked.
"I'll think about it," Mom answered.
"No, really Mom, we really, really, really want to go," Lisa added.
"What chores would you do to make this worth my while?" Mom
asked.
"Well, we could pick up Sparky's dog doodies, mop the floor, and
vacuum," Lisa suggested.
"We could do that, but also we could garden, water the plants, and
wash the dishes," added Elli.
"I'll talk to your dad about it because he would have to do the chores
while we are gone," said Mom.

At dinner the next evening, Mom made the big announcement. "Elli,
Lisa, Sparky and I are going to Buru Wang Island. The girls will do all
the chores they mentioned for one month, without complaining," Mom
added.

Let's Go!
On the day they were to leave, the girls began packing. Elli wanted to
make sure she took her sunglasses. Lisa would not go anywhere
without her teddy, Mr. Snuggles. Mom took her cell phone; she took it
everywhere, and a lawn chair. Lisa made sure they had a chew toy for
Sparky. The tent and sleeping bags made the pack complete.
About midday, mom steered the boat to Buru Wang. They suddenly
realized sharks surrounded them! None of them had a good idea how
to get to the island without experiencing an attack, so they just sat
quietly in the boat. Around midnight when the sharks were asleep,
they made it to the island. Lisa suggested that the sound of the
motorboat engine would wake the sharks and summon an attack.
Sitting safely on the beach, the family heard the alerting howl of a
wolf,

waking the sharks who then viciously attacked the boat until it disappeared into
the water. Elli, standing in about a foot of water, moved out of the ocean just as
a shark approached and tried to bite her foot. The family stood in stunned
silence; everything happened fast.

watching?

OUCH!
"We had better get our camp set up.You guys build a fire pit and I will
put up the tent," Mom instructed.
Sparky, Lisa and Elli gathered rocks and laid them around a shallow
hole Sparky had dug with his front paws. Sparky then slept as the girls
put rocks around the edges and mom put the sleeping bags in the
tent.
"Come on, Sparky, we had better get some firewood," said Lisa.
Just as they entered the woods and had an armful of sticks, they
realized that there was a pack of wolves surrounding them! Lisa
reached down to get another piece of wood and the wolves took off
running, but one yellow wolf charged her and bit her hand!
"OWWW" shouted Lisa.

Elli rushed over to see what was wrong. "What happened?"
"A yellow wolf bit me!" Lisa shouted with tears in her eyes.
"Come on," said Elli as she took her hand and led her back to camp.

"Mom, Lisa has a wolf bite on her hand," Elli explained.
"WHAT?" asked Mom. She inspected the wound, cleaned and stitched
the deep bite.
"Wow, that is wierd. Why is there a blue color on your arm?" Mom
wondered.
As they fell asleep in the tent, they could not believe the adventures of
their first day on the island

The next morning, Sparky yelled at Lisa to wake up.
"Huh? What's going on?" asked Lisa.
"What is it Lisa?" questioned Elli sleepily.
"We need firewood," Yelled Mom from the fire pit. Elli and Lisa
dressed and headed out to find firewood. Sparky led the girls as they
headed into the woods. Sparky grabbed a stick in his mouth and gave
it to Elli.
"Here, take this Elli."
"OH, MY GOSH! I just heard what Sparky said," Lisa yelled.
"I can understand Sparky! I can understand Sparky! I can understand
Sparky!" Lisa kept yelling.

"Mom, Elli, can you tell what Sparky is saying?"
Mom and Elli giggled at such an absurd idea.
Later that morning Elli and Lisa went to the shore to play in the
waves. Sparky started barking and Lisa heard him say, SHARK! The
sharks are coming! The sharks are coming!" Lisa grabbed Elli's arm
and pulled her out of the water just as they saw the fins of a shark.
"How did you know to get out of the water, Lisa?" Elli asked.
"Sparky, told me," responded Lisa.
"You really can understand Sparky"?Elli was amazed.
"Mom, Lisa CAN understand Sparky," Elli reported and Mom gazed at
Lisa, trying to understand what was happening.
