STORYBOOK ON NETWORKING CONCEPTS

10-A
What is Networking Concepts?
Consists of connecting several computer networks based on different protocols -Requires the definition of a common interconnection protocol on top the local protocols. -The Internet Protocol (IP) plays this role, by defining unique addresses for a network and a host machine.

What is TCP/IP?
TCP/IP stands for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol and is a suite of communication protocols used to interconnect network devices on the internet. TCP/IP is also used as a communications protocol in a private computer network (an intranet or extranet).
In simpe words it is a data link protocol used on the internet to let computers and other devices send and receive data.
example:when an email is sent using SMTP from an email server

What is SMTP?
SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is a TCP/IP protocol used in sending and receiving email. SMTP is used most commonly by email clients, including Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and Yahoo Mail. SMTP can send and receive email, but email clients typically use a program with SMTP for sending email.
For example, the SMTP server Gmail uses is smtp.gmail.com, and Twilio SendGrid's is smtp.sendgrid.com.

What is POP3?
POP3 is an older protocol that was originally designed to be used on only one computer. Unlike modern protocols that use two-way synchronization, POP3 only supports one-way email synchronization, only allowing users to download emails from a server to a client. Is the most commonly used protocol for receiving email over the internet.

What is HTTP?
The Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is the foundation of the World Wide Web, and is used to load webpages using hypertext links. HTTP is an application layer protocol designed to transfer information between networked devices and runs on top of other layers of the network protocol stack.
For example, when a URL is entered into the browser, the browser sends an HTTP command to the web server directing it to search and transmit the requested web page.
http://www.example.com/index.html.

What is HTTPS?
Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure is an extension of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol. It uses encryption for secure communication over a computer network, and is widely used on the Internet. In HTTPS, the communication protocol is encrypted using Transport Layer Security or, formerly, Secure Sockets Layer.
The “s” in “https” stands for secure, which indicates that the site is using a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Certificate. This lets you know that all your communication and data is encrypted as it passes from your browser to the website's server.
