Saudi Arabia has a millennial and diverse history. Since ancient times, the region has been an important center of trade and caravan routes. It has been ruled by different empires over time, such as the Assyrians and the Persians. In more recent times, in the 18th century, the Al Saud family established the First Saudi State. In 1932, Abdulaziz ibn Saud unified the kingdoms and created the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which has developed rapidly due to its vast oil reserves. Saudi Arabia is an absolute monarchy, which means that the king has supreme power in the country. Since 2015, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is the reigning monarch. The country also has a system of government based on Islam, and Islamic law, Sharia, influences the legal system.

According to estimated data for 2021, the population of Saudi Arabia is approximately 35 million. The majority of the population is of Arab origin, but there are also immigrant communities from different parts of the world, including migrant workers from Asian and African countries.
