Once upon a time there was a young girl named Nora.
She lived with her mother and father in a lovely cottage in the Nova Scotia countryside.
Nora loved her home, but she also loved to explore and she especially loved having adventures.
One day, after she had finished all of her chores, Nora decided to go for a walk.
She skipped through the countryside, enjoying the sights and the sounds, completely losing track of time.
Before long Nora realised that she didn't know where she was, and she didn't know how to get home.
Eventually Nora came upon a gentle river, which she decided to follow.
As time passed, Nora began to feel hungry and tired, but she continued on.
She thought that if perhaps she continued to follow the river she would come upon a house and people that could direct her back to her home.
Soon she came upon a path leading into the forest, which she decided to follow.
She walked through the forest for a time, not paying any attention to her surroundings.
Suddenly she looked up and there was a very large tree blocking the path.
As she neared the tree she noticed a large door.
Curiosity got the better of her, and Nora chose to open the door.
She was surprised to see that on the other side of the door was a well lit passageway that seemed to go on forever.
Nora decided that she would enter the tree and follow the path.
Nora followed the path for several minutes. The light in front of her was getting brighter as she moved towards it.
As she continued forward, she saw that the path appeared to lead into a large room.
She slowly entered the room, and was in awe when she saw a large feast laid out on a table.
Nora slowly approached the table, and as she neared it she stopped to look around the room.
As she looked past the table she spied a chair on the far side of the room.
She gasped in surprise when she saw what appeared to be a troll sitting in the chair. He was sitting as still as a doll, but was staring straight at her.
As Nora stared back at the troll he began to speak,
"You are free to have a drink if you are thirsty".
"Help yourself to food if you are hungry".
"Come and sit with me if you dare".
"If you chose not to share in my company you are free to leave".
Nora was very afraid, and she did not know what she should do.
The troll then spoke again, "The children will be here soon, and they will want you to play with them. I strongly suggest that you do not".
The troll did not explain why she should not play with them, and Nora was too afraid to ask.
Suddenly there was a noise, and many strange looking children began to enter the room.
The children began approaching Nora and just as the troll had said, they began asking her to play.
Nora remained frozen in place, and did not speak a word to any of them.
Soon the children grew bored with her. They moved towards the table and began to enjoy the feast.
