Dedicated to Dr. Spangler

Irene lived in a small city with her family. She was best friends with her neighbor, Marian. Irene and Marian were 10-years-old.

They played lots of games together, and they even made a secret language. They were the only ones who knew the secret language.

Irene loved to go to school, play outside, and play the violin. But one day, she couldn't do the things she loved anymore.

One day, while Irene and Marian were playing outside, Irene's mom came running outside. She told Irene to quickly come inside

Irene's mom told her to pack her things. Irene didn't know what was going on, but she listened to her mom.

Irene finished packing all of her things. Her mom told her that they had to leave their house and hide somewhere.

The next morning, Irene and her family were removed from their house. They had to leave so quickly that Irene didn't have time to say goodbye to Marian.
Irene and her family were sent to a concentration camp. These camps were used to confine people during the holocaust. People are treated very poorly in these camps. Irene and her family faced a lot of challenges in these camps but they stayed hopeful.
