When I was 19, I moved in with my grandma. She was conservative and passive-aggressive. I was young, loud, and experiencing the world for the first time. We did not always get along, and I swear her cat was evil. But! we loved each other, and I find myself missing those days now.

Anyways.. during this time, I heard many stories from my grandma. She told me about her friends, and times when she was young. I got to hear funny stories about my dad, and sad stories about her lost husbands. But my favorite story is one that I got to be a part of. I'm going to tell you that story.

Back in the 80's, there was a teacher. She never had children of her own, but she loved her students. One of her students got pregnant and wanted to put the baby up for adoption. The teacher felt that this was fate, and adopted her student's baby. The student got to go on to complete highschool, and the teacher got the chance to be a mother. The baby's name was Katie.

This is where my grandma comes in. She was Katie's nanny.

My grandma has always loved kids, and Katie was no exception. They did everything together. My grandma potty-trained Katie, took her to parks and festivals, bathed her, and made her favorite foods every day.
Until one day, perhaps inevitably, Katie started my grandma "Mama."
This stirred up a lot of feelings in Katie's adoptive mother. She was sad and jealous. She fired my grandmother from being Katie's nanny. My grandmother was heartbroken.
